LET'S GO CAPS NATS!

  From: Dad

"Hope you had a wonderful time at the Nationals home opener, you lucky stiffs!
    Love, Dad"

"We had a great time. The crowd was into every pitch of the game and was pretty loud the whole time. Great atmosphere! And everyone had some sort of Nationals gear on. Of course, RFK is pretty cramped and old, but they did a good job getting it ready. There were a few glitches: long lines at concessions/souvenirs, not enough ushers, no out-of-town scoreboard, no pencils for keeping score in the program, the TV's in the concourse weren’t showing the game, etc. But those glitches will get worked out.
Although I obviously don’t like him, it was neat to see Bush throw out the first pitch. Plus, they had old Senators players (including Frank Howard) take the field with the Nationals players’ gloves. Then the current Nationals ran out and took their gloves from the old players and the game started. That was very cool.
Politicians/media people were everywhere, of course: Sen. McCain, Laura Bush, Bush’s daughters, Jeb Bush, Sen. Dodd, all the District city council, Anthony Williams, Bud Selig, all the local TV media, etc. We didn’t see anyone famous up close except for one: we were going to our seats (we got there early, around 5:00) and we were walking behind an older couple. Someone who was passing by in the opposite direction recognized the man ahead of us and said “Hi Mr. Kemp! Go Bills!” It was Jack Kemp and his wife. Kinda cool. Thought of you, since you grew up in Buffalo and all…
All in all, it was a great time. I’ll never go to another Orioles game, that’s for sure. I like the Nats and they’re definitely going to be my #2 team.

Love,
    Glenn"

HYPOCRITICAL ASS. CONFUSED RAT.

I found this ad on washingtonpost.com. They can't say "ass" in their paper, but they sure as hell can show it.

Kenny called me at 8:30 in the frickin' morning on Tuesday. And he was calling from the drive-through at McDonald's, no less:
Ken: "Hey, where's the Bready Park softball field? It's in Herndon, right?"
Me: "Uh, why are you calling me to ask this at 8:30 in the damn morning?"
Ken: "I just wanted to know where it was before tonight's coed games."
Me: "We don't have games tonight. We played last night."
Ken: "We don't play on Tuesday nights?"
  Me: "No, Monday nights. Remember?"
Ken: "Oh, I thought it was on Tuesdays. I must be confusing it with the church team. Don't we have a church practice tonight?"
Me: "No, that was last night too.
  Ken: "Ah, I see."
Me: "You're very confused, aren't you?"
Ken: "Yes, I am. Hold on, I have to order. (shouts) I'LL HAVE A BACON AND EGG BISCUIT, A SAUSAGE McBAGEL, A LARGE DIET COKE, A NEWSPAPER, AND A BOTTLE OF WATER."
  Me: "Can I go now?"
Ken: "Yeah, I suppose....Uh, don't we have church games this week sometime?"
  Me: "Jesus..."
And now that I think about it, the coed games weren't even at Bready Park. They were at Lake Fairfax. For a very successful businessman, Kenny is a little lost sometimes.
RIGOROUS. Hypocritical Ass, Let's Go Caps Nats!, Rigorous, Confused Rat, Julia Guglia, Schneider, and You're Okay Today.
I missed this the first go-round: "We screen for felons and marrieds." Holy crap, what a selling point.
SCHNEIDER. YOU'RE OKAY TODAY.
Yeah, it's no secret I dislike the guy, but you have to give Bush credit. He threw out the first pitch at the Nationals home opener (and didn't bounce it) and then he stayed for most of the game. And it was kinda cool to see the Prez in person. I may not like the man, but I do respect the office.
But they guy who undoubtedly got the biggest kick out of it was the catcher, Brian Schneider. I mean, what kind of big thrill was that for him? I heard that Bush and Schneider practiced that first pitch in the batting cage under the stands before the game. That's pretty cool in my book.
