Beth got this book last Christmas called "The Handbook of Dreams: How to
Interpret and Understand Your Dreams." It had been shoved into the
cabinet below the sink in the bathroom, but I decided to fish it out
yesterday and make it my Bathroom Reader (beats the hell out of
People Magazine and "Carolina: Photos from the First State
University"). Although it's a fluff book, it does have a nice index
which lets you easily search by topic, so it's sort of helpful.
And, of course, I had me a dream last night to
analyze:
I dreamt I was in a strange house out in the
country with my brother Kevin and some unidentifiable old man.
Apparently, Kevin and I were supposed to go somewhere on foot, so
the old man gave us a bunch of complex directions on how to get there
("Go down this dirt road. Turn right at the big tree. Go left. Go
straight until the road curves. Turn right into the woods. Go up around
the bend. Look for a paved road. Keep to the left. Take a right. Go down
a hill past the stream."). Well, Kevin took off immediately and I kinda
stood there for a minute trying to memorize the directions (try
memorizing something in a dream--it's freakin' impossible). Finally, I
took off after Kevin. Of course, he was gone by this point, so I kinda
just wandered along several dirt roads and ended up on a road through
some woods. Up ahead, I noticed a man on the side of the road fixing a
flat tire on his bike. I jogged up to him and realized it was Jimmy
Carter. Yeah, Jimmy Carter. And then Beth's alarm went off and that was
the end of that.
So the first thing I did this morning was pick
up the dream book and flip to the index in search of key dream symbols.
I looked up "directions, complex." Nothing. Then "roads, dirt." Nope,
not there either. How about "tires, flat?" Nada. "Presidents, -ex?" Not
a damn thing. It was pointless.
Now if I dreamt that I was drowning in the
ocean at night while a sexy nun chased the Queen of England across the
beach, well, I'd have something then. But sadly, I had no such dream.
Maybe I'll have better luck tonight. |
