I
know that it's been a month since I've written anything, but I didn't
feel right about blabbing on and on about nonsensical stuff when things
have been difficult around here for the past two weeks. And since I
really didn't want to write about what's going on around here (until
now, obviously), well, that's the reason for my absence.
So anyway, Luke the Dog isn't doing so well. It
started with a nagging cough a couple of weeks ago and after several
tests, x-rays, an ultra-sound, and a biopsy, we're close to figuring it
out (we hope). To make a long story short, there's a good chance he has
cancer. No, it's not 100%, but the odds aren't that great for him. There
is, however, a chance that he has a fungus in his lungs or some kind of
rare virus, but we don't know yet. If he has something like that, we'll
be relieved since a fungus or virus could be treatable. It's odd for us
to aim our hope in that direction, but it's better than the alternative. He
went in for his biopsy on Tuesday and we should have the results early
next week. The poor guy had to go through surgery for them to get a
sample. He spent the night at the doggy hospital, but came home the next
day and now he's zonked out on pain killers half the time. Except for a
lack of appetite and some whining, he's recovering from the surgery
fairly well, so that's a bright spot.
Needless to say, it's been tough. Especially
for Beth. But we're both trying to stay positive and just deal with it
as it comes. The funny thing is that he has very few symptoms--just an
occasional cough, some shortness of breath, and bouts of lethargy. On
the whole, he's the same old goofy dog he's always been. And as the docs
told us, even if he does have cancer he'll likely be around for awhile
longer (and by the way, I don't smoke inside the house or around him at
all, so don't even go down that road).
Anyway, like I said, we'll know more next week
so I'll keep you all posted. |
