Last week we did our annual draft for
our Sandbox Fantasy Football league. It was a live draft,
which means everyone has to be online at the same time to
pick. Of course, getting 10 people online at the same time
is often difficult, so Sandbox has an "auto pick"
which allows an owner to have the computer draft for
him. But if you go on auto, your chances of picking
up a crap player or a player who just retired is greatly increased. That being said, everyone
tried
to be online at the same time, but it just wasn't
happening. And that led to, well, just a little tension......

For those of you bitching about the quality of your team due to having to go on automatic today and how i was as glenn called it a "draft nazi," let me say this. draft time was 1pm tues, not weds, not thurs. we all knew well ahead of time on tues when it started, and before you switched leagues, and by 2:30 still were not past round 1. hammy made picks yestarday from a restaurant, matt called his picks into me from boston, i added 2 hours to my drive home tues to be at a computer to make picks. so instead of busting my balls for getting on people to make their picks, why don't you bust the balls of the people who didn't make picks tuesday, at night tuesday, during the course of the day yesterday or over night yesterday. if you didn't want to get bad picks by being automatic you could have let someone else make the picks for you. don't blame me for wanting to get it done. i never stopped my life glenn, i was finishing what i
started.

The Rational Approach:
Actually, Kenny, I haven't bitched about the quality of my team at all. It's fantasy football. It's no big deal to me. That being said, I was still looking forward to enjoying the camaraderie of a live draft with everyone. But lo and behold, I do not have email at work, so I made an attempt before and after work to make my picks. Of course, that didn't work out so well because it was difficult to get everyone online at either 8 am or 6 pm (okay, more like 10 am or 4 pm). Well, seeing how that I was getting at least 50-75 emails a day saying "C'mon Mike, PICK!" or "Jesus Chris, stop jerking your chicken and make a damn pick!", I decided to give up the live part and just go on auto. And then what happened? Kenny gives me shit for picking a crippled player. Because I was on auto. Because I didn't want to hold everyone else up. Hmm. And as for Hammy picking from a restaurant, Matt calling in picks from Timbuktu, and Darrell picking while he's having sex with Adrienne (he only got 1 pick in during that), well, that's their prerogative. As for me, I didn't feel the need to go out of my way and rearrange my schedule to pick manually. But that's just me. However, I *twice* suggested that we all pick a time that works for everyone to hold this draft and I pretty much got no response. No big deal. In the end it all worked out and we got the draft done. I haven't bitched, whined, or busted anyone's balls and I'm pretty content with my team.
The Irrational Approach:
Look, I didn't bitch about the quality of my team at all. Where in hell did you get that from? But look at this: *you* gave me shit for picking an injured guy when all I was trying to do was speed things along by going on auto. I was doing you all a favor because I'm not online at work, but apparently some of you didn't want my help because you'd rather rearrange your whole life around some stupid draft. Next time, I'll sit on manual and have the draft happen when I want it to. You're the Draft Nazi because you were the one who was screaming at people to pick for the past two days like the fate of the world depended on it. I twice suggested to pick a time for the draft that worked for all of us (since 1pm Tuesday didn't work for everyone) and I got no response. I guess some of you had to get this draft done so you could masturbate over your players for the next 14 days before the season starts.
