Ah,
crap. Or maybe I should say "Holy crap." The fantastically funny Peter
Boyle died last night in New York.
Although he acted in quite a few movies
(including "Taxi Driver," "The Candidate," and "While You Were
Sleeping") and various TV shows, he's best remembered for his role as
The Monster in "Young Frankenstein" and, of course, as Frank Barone in
"Everybody Loves Raymond." Hell, he was great in both roles.
Watching "Everybody Loves Raymond" reruns has
been a staple of my evening routine while I'm cooking up dinner between
7:00 and 8:00 and Beth has always said that I'll be Frank Barone when
I'm an old man (I've
mentioned this before, actually). No argument here about that...
And even though he was nothing like the
character he played on "Raymond," he did have his moments. From the
Associated Press:
When Boyle tried out for the role opposite
series star Ray Romano's Ray Barone, however, he was kept waiting for
his audition--and he was not happy. "He came in all hot and angry,"
recalled the show's creator, Phil Rosenthal, "and I hired him because I
was afraid of him."
Heh. That's good stuff right there.
