Way Out In Left

(Vignettes II: The General Public Is An Idiot...)

At 1:00, there was a small knock at my office door. It was a prospective employee coming in for his interview with me. Ah, good, right on time. I opened the door, introduced myself, and invited him into the office. He in turn smiled and politely shook my hand. Well-dressed, hair slicked-back, clean shirt and tie, and carrying a Day Runner. Hmm. So far, so good.

So what.

Before we even sat down, the first thing out of his mouth was, "Is this going to take long? I have another interview after this."

I stopped and looked him straight in the eye. "Nope, not long at all. As a matter of fact, thank you for coming. Goodbye."

He paused for only a second before slowly turning back around, closing the door on his way out without another word.
