Previous Entry. Next Entry.
Thursday February 24 2005. SERVICE.
As a service to my loyal readers (and those who stumbled here by accident and haven't hit the back button on their browser just yet), I'm providing some of my favorite recent bookmarks (many acquired from MonkeyFilter in the past several months). Yep, go ahead and file this weblog entry under "Lazy, Extremely".
BUILDINGS. MAPPING. INTERESTING.

It's about time that I admit to being a closet skyscraper enthusiast. SkyscraperPage.com rocks my world with some great info, photos, and diagrams.

I no longer use Mapquest. Or Yahoo! Maps, for that matter. My new favorite is Google Maps because it lets you drag your mouse to move over different part of your map. It's a beta version, but I won't be using anything else. Also, TerraFly is pretty cool if you're just looking for aerial photos of the United States. Look, that's my house!   A couple of sites that I find simply fascinating: logotypes.ru has over 5,000 corporate logos available for download and there are a number of sites dedicated to photos of shipbreaking. Good stuff.
LANGUAGE. ODD MUSIC.

There are thousands of sites and directories out there dedicated to linguistics and I've found that languagehat.com is the best starting point. Great language blog and too many good links to mention. Oh, and I could easily waste several hours looking through Common Errors in English.

And although I've probably mentioned this little ditty before, Badgerphone is the best animation-and-song on the web. That tune will stick in your head all freakin' day.
PASSWORD. The Bookmark Issue.
Hate sites that require logins? Go to BugMeNot.com and see if some other generous web-user has provided a free login/password for others to use. I've found that you can pretty much get into any well-known site (such as the NY Times, etc.) using BugMeNot.
SHOPPING. USED.
Since I buy pretty much everything online, I'm always on the prowl for discounts. BradsDeals.com is as good as any out there, I suppose. And while we're on the topic of discounting, I highly recommend Business-Supply.com for office supplies. Although they don't have the widest selection, their prices are pretty low and they offer free next day shipping on orders over $45. Yes, free. Yes, next day. That's pretty cool.
  (Okay, enough shilling for them.)
More Shopping: Since I tend to lose golf balls by the bucketload, buying new balls would be pretty stupid. Instead, I buy used balls at UsedGolfBallDeals.com. I can get a 50-pack of almost-new Pinnacles for 16 bucks, which is hella good.
(And I'm done shilling for these guys too).
