Wednesday July 2 2008.
That's Some Damn Fine Bubble Wrap.

Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later. With the amount of online purchases I make, I knew that I'd get screwed one of these days. And today was that day.

This morning, while closing out last month's accounting crap (work stuff, not home stuff) I happened to check my work credit card balance online. I don't normally do that, but I wanted to see if a pending FedEx charge for $9.12 had shown up on my account . It hadn't yet, but two other noticeable charges were staring back at me.

One charge for $1,300. One charge for $1,800. Grand total: $3,100.

What the hell?

The two charges were from yesterday and they were from a shipping supply company that I made a purchase from--back in May. And that purchase was only $40. Ain't no 3,000 bucks. Nosiree.

Fortunately for me, the folks at Chase Bank Visa allowed me to dispute the charges and promised to send me a new card within five days. Which, of course, meant that my current credit card account was being closed permanently. And in turn, that meant I had to spend the rest of my morning contacting the likes of PayPal, Google Advertising, Yahoo Search Marketing, FedEx, USPS, my web hosting company, and a bunch of others to tell them not to post any new charges on that credit card. What a freakin' pain.

But, on the bright side, the day wasn't a total loss. Barney's internet connection was down all afternoon so at least I was able to get a lot of work done after lunch.
