Some days you feel smart. Some days you feel stupid. And sometimes they
happen on the same day.
SMART. One of my mortgage banker clients
emailed me out of the blue yesterday. She asked what I used to do for a
living before I started writing mortgage and real estate newsletters.
She wrote (and this is a direct quote--I couldn't make this stuff up),
"You clearly have your finger on the pulse of the lending industry. Are
you a former loan officer?"
Wow. Apparently, she thinks pretty highly of my
mortgage article writing skills. That's about the highest compliment
someone could give me in terms of my writing. Don't get me wrong: I'd
rather gnaw off my left foot before becoming a loan officer (sorry rat
bastard, but your job is dull), but it's certainly nice to hear that
someone thinks my articles are spot-on.
STUPID. During a phone conversation with
a Potential Client (yes, I capitalize Potential Clients--they're kinda
important) they asked me what kind of postage is required to send out
the newsletters. I told them that unless they had a bulk rate
permit, they'd have to use a first-class stamp. "Oh, so it's just the
regular forty-one cent stamp then. I was hoping it would be cheaper."
Click! A little light bulb went on in my head.
Forty-one cents? Wait. When does that new rate go into effect? I do a
lot of first-class mailing (invoices, marketing packets, etc.) so I need
to be ready for that new rate hike. Gotta get me some 2 cent stamps and
update all of my balance sheets, supply lists, and what-not. I checked
on the Post Office's website and found out when that rate hike was
happening...
