Beth and I were talking about writing,
publishing, and what-not the other day and she had what I thought was a
very interesting comment. She claimed that I don't reveal
much about myself in this journal. According to her, I
write a lot about my friends and their problems, deficiencies,
and habits, but I don't really get into myself much.
After mulling this over for a bit, I decided she was
right. Many people know the basics about me, but not much
else. So, in deference to my Bethy, I'm going to offer a
few relatively unknown facts about The Glenny......
I'm
slightly claustrophobic, I'm afraid of deep dark water, I have a
fear of heights (because I have a irrational desire to jump),
and in the past couple of years I've become scared of
flying. Also, I suffer from a mild form of
obsessive-compulsive disorder and a more-than-mild form of
social anxiety.
If any of my good friends came to me and said
they needed $500 with no questions asked, I wouldn't hesitate to
give it to them.
As a small child, I used to go to speech
therapy. When I spoke, I would push my tongue against my
top front teeth which was slowly causing my teeth to stick
out. Later on in life, I wore braces.
My current weight
of 189 pounds is the heaviest I've ever been.
I hate tomato
juice, but I love bloody marys; I don't like coconut or rum, but
I like coconut rum; I'm very much against war, but I
really enjoy war movies.
I've never done any drugs and I've
never had a one-night stand. Well, okay, I've had one
one-night
stand, but it wasn't at night, so it shouldn't count.
In college, I was an extra in the movie
True
Colors with John Cusack and James Spader. I was in a
bar scene (of course) in which I stood next to Cusack for the
opening shot. Between takes, I told him he had cool shoes
("Thanks! They're Reeboks.").
Unfortunately, my three seconds on film ended up on the cutting
room floor.
In the drinking game called quarters, my record for consecutive shots made
is 79. And no, I wasn't sober at
the time.
Some of my guilty pleasures include the movie
Red
Dawn, Shaggy's last album, Spongebob Squarepants,
playing the video game Quake II, and puppet shows.
I once
dated three girls at one time.
I consider myself smarter than
most of my friends, but I also think that most of friends are
better looking than me.
In high school, I won an essay contest
sponsored by the local Optimist Club. They gave me a
nice plaque and I read my work aloud at one of their
meetings. For the life of me, though, I can't remember
what the essay was about.
When I was fifteen or sixteen, I
accidentally stepped on a pencil. Since I didn't have any
shoes on, the pencil stuck in my foot. To this day, you
can still see a black mark underneath my skin.
I've worn
women's clothing at several parties, I love the soundtrack Jesus
Christ: Superstar, and when I was in college a guy offered
me a blow job (the key word here is offered).
There is
only one food that I simply will not eat: green beans.
Although
I've never seen Gone With The Wind, It's A Wonderful
Life, or The Godfather, I did see Star Wars
the day it premiered in theaters. My parents dragged me to
it, even though I didn't want to see some "dumb space
movie."
One of my favorite topics to
think about, write about, and talk about is......myself.
