Dear Mr. Arnold,

It was discovered by Fairfax Adult Softball that you used Theresa K., a non-rostered player, in your games at Nottoway Park, Field #2 on Sunday evening, April 29.  According to Rule 39 of the FAS 2001 Handbook of Guidelines and Procedures and Playing Rules, the use of a non-rostered player requires a loss of eligibility for a period of at least one year.

In lieu of your actions and since this is a first-time offense, the following penalty is warranted:

Your are hereby placed on probation through June 5, 2002.  This effectively means that any substantiated violation of any FAS rule during this probation period will result in you immediate suspension and a hearing conducted to determine what, if any, additional action will be taken.

FAS regrets that circumstances necessitated our taking this action; however, when the integrity of the FAS program and its rules is challenged, we will take whatever steps are necessary to insure they are protected.

You have the right to appeal this decision to the FAS President.  Your appeal must be in writing within 10 days after the postmark of this notice.

Sincerely,

Ralph W., 2nd Vice President (Rules)

FAS Board of Directors

Ralph W., 2nd Vice President ("Rules")

Dear Mr. W.,

According to Rule 39 of the FAS 2001 Handbook of Guidelines and Procedures and Playing Rules, "any FAS participant who believes that a team has used an illegal player in a game may report this allegation, in writing, to the FAS office for investigation. Any report must be received within two business days of the conclusion of the game in question."  So the two questions that I have are, a) was this allegation reported in writing within two business days, and b) if so, why did it take a month and a half for me to be notified of this allegation?

Furthermore, the timing of your letter could not have been more suspiciously appropriate.  Your letter is dated June 5, which is exactly two days following our second set of games over the same team that brought the allegation against me.  Is this a coincidence?  It very well could be, but the fact that we soundly beat them on April 29 as well as on June 3 makes me wonder.

Finally, I would appreciate it if you would let me know what probation entails.  Does this mean I am unable to participate in the NCAA Basketball Tournament?  Or does it mean that I must check in with my base coaches once a month?

Sincerely,

Glenn Arnold, Manager ("Rule Breaker")
Flight Deck Hawks

P.S. - I suppose the integrity of the FAS program does not include grammatical integrity, as noted by your use of the phrase "within 10 days after."
