(Vignettes VIII: Cheaters Never Prosper, But A Little Bit Of Silliness Helps Out Now And Then...)

Tuesday night, after hitting a pair of unimpressive pop-ups in his previous two at-bats, Barney decided to try something a little different.  Right before he came up for his third trip to the plate, he told us that if he popped up again, he was going to call time-out while the ball was in flight.

Sure enough, he hit one straight up.  As the pitcher was circling under the ball, Barney turned to the umpire and loudly declared, "Time!"  Of course, this threw everyone off for a second.  Calling time right after hitting a ball?  What kind of screwy crap is that?  Well, it screwed up the pitcher just enough so that he dropped the ball.  And Barney was safe at first.  Brilliant.

Our new strategy: Confuse Rather Than Lose.
