Let's Go Watch The Dancing Waters At The Bellagio For Three Straight Days.

I think I should pretty much stay away from the blackjack tables the next time I'm in Vegas. That's the only conclusion I can come up with. The last two years I've gone out to Vegas I've completely bombed out playing blackjack. I mean, completely. El stinko.

Now, before you say it, it has nothing to do with the way I actually played. Before we left Virginia, I made sure I had memorized basic strategy. As a matter of fact, I think I was more prepared this year than ever before. I had "the book" memorized. I knew whether to hit, stay, double, or split in every situation. Hey, I played the right way. I think I misplayed maybe 4-5 hands the entire trip (and by misplayed I don't mean that I doubled on a 12 or did something stupid like that--it was more like splitting 9's against a dealer's 7 whereas the book says to stay).

And it wasn't where I played or how long I played that mattered either. I figure that I played an average of 8 or 9 hours a day each of the four days we were out there and I played at several different different tables in several different casinos each day too. But, in the end, it didn't matter what I did. I lost my ass the first day we were out there and then I spent the next three days just trying to stop the bleeding. [Note to self: Don't use "ass" and "bleeding" in the same sentence] For the remainder of the trip I didn't lose as badly as I did that first day, but I think I walked away only twice from a table either being up a little money or even. Pathetic.

So the question is: If I don't play blackjack the next time I'm out there, what am I gonna play? Craps? I don't think so. It didn't work out so well for Beth (who pretty much was even for the trip, gambling-wise) when she tried out craps for the first time. She had decided that she didn't want to play blackjack anymore so she went over to a craps table with Barney to learn how to play. Twenty minutes later she came back. I asked her how it went and she said, "Well, some people rolled some dice, I didn't know what was going on, and then I lost all of my money. Good times." So, no. That's not for me.

Of course, the smart thing to do would be not to go to Vegas at all, but where's the fun in that? Maybe I'll just have to bring more money next time...

Yeah. That's it.
