T-minus two days to Vegas, so it's time to formulate my blackjack
strategy. Do I take my blackjack
playing serious? Well, yes and no. Although having fun is what it's all
about, I definitely do try to play by "the book" and memorize basic
strategy before I hit the tables. I mean, it is money I'm playing with,
not corn chips. I don't want to just jack around and play by The Force
(like I did my first time in Vegas, which pissed off plenty of other
people sitting at tables with me). I want to minimize the house's odds
and give myself the best possible chance. Nothing wrong with that.
Actually, it's not really my playing strategy that I need to
formulate. I got that down, I think. It's my betting strategy
that I need to think about. Be aggressive? Bet $25 a hand? Bump up my
bets quickly if I win a couple of hands in a row? Or be conservative?
Bet the table minimum until I get on a longer streak? That's what I need
to figure out. Also, I need a Walk Away
Strategy. If the table goes cold--or if there's some stupid people
playing at the table with me--I need to know when to get the hell up and
find another table or quit playing for awhile.
Hmm. Questions, questions, questions.
Well, my goal in the end, as always, is not necessarily to win, but to
at least come out even for the trip. That way I can have five days of
free entertainment and--just as important--five days of free drinks. |
